It’s been just under three years since the release of The National’s last full-length album, High Violet, but that doesn’t mean the Brooklyn natives have been kicking back. Almost two of those years have been spent on the road extensively touring, while the rest of that time has been dedicated to recording Trouble Will Find Me, the group’s upcoming album set for release on May 21st via 4AD. Given the band’s fourteen-year history and four previous full-length albums, which have been nothing short of exemplary, news of this new effort from The National couldn’t be more welcome.

I fell in love with Matt Berninger’s profound vocals six years ago, and The National holds a special place in my heart as “Slow Show” was one of the first songs I learned how to play on guitar (don’t ask me to play it now, for all of our sakes). As they did after releasing High Violet, the band will support the new album with a spring and summer tour, including an August 10th show at The Greek Theatre.

In addition to a packed tour schedule, The National is set to premiere the documentary Mistaken for Strangers at the Tribeca Film Festival next month. The film, which chronicles the band’s touring experiences, was both filmed and directed between tour dates by roadie Tom Berringer, brother to frontman Matt Berringer.
