Dan Croll – From Nowhere EP
The Guardian has described Croll’s sound as “Paul Simon jamming with Prince,” and you may have caught him in LA last week when he played a pair of shows at The Echo and The Bootleg as part of his debut US tour, which now has him down in Austin for SXSW.
Biffy Clyro – Opposites
Fresh off their win as the “Best British Band” at the NME Awards, Biffy Clyro releases their sixth studio album in the US today. Next month the Scottish rock band will be performing at Coachella, and they’ve also been confirmed a slot opening for Muse on their US tour.
Carmen Villain – Sleeper
Jay previewed this debut album from model/singer Carmen Hillestad, calling it “the sound of someone who has a real grasp of lo-fi rock dynamics, the likes of which Sonic Youth used to make a killing with.”
David Bowie – The Next Day
Bowie recorded 29 tracks for The Next Day, his first studio effort in a decade, and if you want to hear the fourteen songs that made the cut (plus 3 bonus tracks!), now’s your chance.
Devendra Banhart – Mala
Lo-fi, freak-folk artist Devendra Banhart releases Mala today, his eighth full-length and first on the Nonesuch label.
Girls Names – The New Life
Belfast-based four-piece Girls Names releases their sophomore album, The New Life, today via Slumberland Records.
Golden Grrrls – Golden Grrrls
Another Slumberland Records release, this one from Glasgow-based indie-pop group Golden Grrrls. They’ll be heading out on a US tour in a couple of weeks, which includes a stop at The Troubadour on March 29th with Veronica Falls and Brilliant Colors.
Sound City – Real To Reel (OST)
This album accompaniment to Dave Grohl’s Sound City documentary drops today and features Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield, Paul McCartney, Trent Reznor, Grohl’s Foo Fighters crew, and more.
Watsky – Cardboard Castles
LA-based rapper, writer, and performer George Watsky releases his second studio album today, and you can catch his free in-store at Amoeba on March 13th or his full performance at El Rey Theatre on May 4th.
Wild Belle – Isles
Today the sibling duo of Natalie and Elliot Bergman releases their debut full-length via Columbia Records, and they’ll be playing The Glass House in Pomona with Yeasayer and Wild Nothing on April 11th.
