Lots of great albums being released today, especially if you’re a fan of the more experimental musical works. We have a debut album from a supergroup that’s been kicking around the live circuit for a few years now, some big releases in the world of metal, and several indie albums hitting shelves today as well, so check out our list of notable new releases below, and be sure to let me know in the comments what you’ll be listening to today.
Atoms For Peace – Amok
Atoms For Peace may not garner the same name recognition as “Radiohead” or “Red Hot Chili Peppers,” but this supergroup comprised of members of both those bands (Thom York and Nigel Godrich of Radiohead, Flea of RHCP) and more (Joey Waronker of Beck & R.E.M., Brazilian instrumentalist Mauro Refosco) has been a favorite of experimental music fans since forming in 2009. The group releases their debut album, Amok, today, and fingers are crossed for an official tour announcement in the near future.
Doldrums – Lesser Evil
Another highly anticipated debut, Doldrums’ androgynous vocals and unique approach to electronic music have garnered the 23-year-old Montreal-based artist international acclaim. He’ll be appearing at SXSW next month during a slew of tour dates that will also have him stopping by the Bootleg Bar here in LA on March 22nd, so if you like what you hear on Lesser Evil, be sure to pick up tickets to that show.
Autre Ne Veut – Anxiety
Named by Stereogum as one of the “Most Anticipated Albums of 2013,” Anxiety is the sophomore album by Autre Ne Veut, the alias of 30-year-old Brooklyn musician Arthur Ashin. He will also be making an appearance in LA in the near future, so if after checking out the album, you’re “anxious” to hear its experimental R&B tracks performed live, pick up tickets to Autre Ne Veut’s show at The Troubadour on March 12th.
