New album releases 021913

Today’s list of new album releases includes a couple of bands from Down Under, a quirky singer/songwriter who’s not afraid to get a little dirty, a highly anticipated sophomore album out of Brooklyn, and so much more. Check out the albums that have us the most excited this Tuesday below, and be sure to let me know in the comments what you’ll be listening to today!

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds – Push The Sky Away

Nick Cave is back with his fifteenth studio album with the Bad Seeds and first since the 2009 departure of founding band member Mick Harvey. The group recently released a NSFW video for the album track “Jubilee Street” (Ben and David discussed that one on the February 7th episode of the LA Music Blogcast), and they’ll be headlining this year’s Coachella, so this looks to be a big year for Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.

Sallie Ford And The Sound Outside – Untamed Beast

I’ll admit I was a bit shocked when I first saw the cover for the new Sallie Ford album. My initial encounter with the bespectacled songstress was via the purchase of her Not an Animal EP from the merch table at her show opening for The Avett Brothers at the Orpheum back in 2009, and that release featured an adorable little owl on the cover. While Untamed Beast may be in keeping with the animal-themed titles, the cover is a far cry from the one featuring that innocent-looking bird. If the artwork is any indication of what we can expect from the album itself, this is going to be a more mature Salie Ford than we’ve ever heard before.

Atlas Genius – When It Was Now

Back Seat” and “Trojans” officially whet my appetite for Atlas Genius’ debut full-length, and I have no doubt there are at least one or two more summer jams to be found on this release. The South Astralian band is currently providing support on Imagine Dragons’ sold-out spring tour, and they’ll be headlining their own run of dates beginning in April, so check out the album and sing along the next time you have a chance to catch Atlas Genius live.
