I’m just going to come out and say it: The Dillinger Escape Plan is the greatest band on the planet. I say that with the caveat that it is an entirely subjective opinion, and I accept that it’s fully open to argument, but I’m sticking by my obscenely hyperbolic statement. I know I’m not the only one who has been regularly astonished by the band over the last decade since they released the iconic Calculating Infinity in 1999, and the math-metallers / thrash legends / whatever you want to call them are one of only a handful of bands that can still make this 31-year-old man squeal a little bit with excitement just by announcing a new album.

The new album is here though. It arrives on May 14th. It’s called One Of Us Is The Killer. It’s coming out on the band’s own label, Party Smasher Inc., in partnership with Sumerian Records, and you can check out the very cool artwork above. Tour dates will be announced in the next few weeks apparently, although we already know they are confirmed to play Club Nokia on May 2nd at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. I would expect an LA date sometime in the summer, and I’m sure it won’t be long until we get confirmation.

For now, I’ll leave you with the video for the extraordinary “Farewell, Mona Lisa” from The Dillinger Escape Plan’s 2010 album, Option Paralysis. I’m off to do a little more squealing and then have a little lie down.
