Sporting a new blonde do, just after a surprise show at The Glass House in Pomona, Karen O and the other two-thirds of Yeah Yeah Yeahs have announced their first album since the 2009 release of It’s Blitz.

What’s better than a much-welcomed announcement of new material from a universally loved band? One that the group is openly excited about. The report of a new full-length comes straight from Karen, who explains what to expect from the album and expresses their happiness to be back:

“SO much feeling went into this record, it was the rope ladder thrown down into the ditch for us to climb up and dust ourselves off. I hope others can climb up it too; we’re excited to share the good vibes.”

The new record, Mosquito, is set to be released on April 16, 2013 via Interscope, with some charming cover art and a teaser video that has the memories of O’s twisting, writhing, and thrashing on stage rushing on back with blissful nostalgia. The promise of a new album and upcoming tour dates suggest that we’ll be seeing a lot of Yeah Yeah Yeahs in 2013, and we’re glad to hear it. Spring can’t come soon enough!
