Welcome to the first weekend of the new year! While most of us shake off the cobwebs still left in our heads from an indulgent New Year’s Eve, the live music scene in LA likewise picks up the pace this weekend, with plenty of great shows to choose from. Check out just a few of your options below, and be sure to let me know in the comments where you’ll be spending the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of 2013!
Neurosis @ The Fonda Theatre – Friday, January 4th – Tickets
Want to kick off the year with something heavy and deep? Head over to The Fonda Theatre to catch Neurosis. Nearly three decades into the band’s career, the experimental metal group is still going strong, touring off the 2012 release of their 10th studio album, Honor Found in Decay, and they’ll be supported for this show by tribal post-punk band Savage Republic and doom metalers Ides Of Gemini.
Chief @ The Satellite – Saturday, January 5th – FREE
A year after breaking up, folk rockers Chief reformed this summer and will be playing a free show at the Satellite this Saturday. The Santa Monica-based quartet will be joined by fellow SoCal acts Brian Whelan and Strange Markings for this performance, and with $2 PBR/well drinks and $5 specialty cocktails from 8-9pm, this is definitely the show to catch if you’re on a budget but still looking to hear some great live music.
Sandy Hook Benefit @ Whisky A Go Go – Sunday, January 6th – Tickets
Can’t say I’ve heard any of the bands scheduled to play the Whisky’s Sandy Hook benefit this weekend, but with a silent auction; raffles for a guitar, gift cards, and more; and a great cause behind it all, this show should be well worth the price of admission.
