You might have heard of Jessie Ware in smaller circles last year since the South London singer/songwriter’s debut album, Devotion, was mostly a digital discovery in the US (the UK saw a full physical and digital release), but excellent word-of-mouth and critical praise have brought her into a greater spotlight in recent months.
The album is quite glorious. Ware’s deft lyricism — spoken through a dominant and smoky voice reminiscent of Alicia Keys and Sade — makes for an emotive record whose single “Wildest Moments” made our list of the Top 20 singles of 2012, with the track “Sweet Talk” also coming in as a strong contender for the list.
Now, to prove her incredible presence, the songstress is making her way to Los Angeles to perform a sold out show at El Rey Theatre on Wednesday, January 23rd, in support of her new EP, entitled If You’re Never Gonna Move, which was released by Cherrytree Records last week.
If You’re Never Gonna Move features the title track along with tracks taken from Devotion, including the aforementioned “Sweet Talk,” whose music video you can view below. You can be sure Ware will be making appearances at various festivals around the globe this year, and if you get the chance to see her Wednesday night, you’ll be seeing a star in the making.
