The Twittersphere has been all abuzz since Justin Timberlake posted a mysterious tweet last night hinting at a big announcement today. Hopeful fans immediately began speculating that this was the moment they’d all been waiting for, JT’s big return to music. For six years, the music world has been eager for the artist to release a follow-up to his 2006’s solo effort, FutureSex / LoveSounds, but instead he’s been focusing on seemingly everything but music, putting his creative energy into films (The Social Network, Trouble with the Curve), fashion, television, restaurants, even home décor, but it seems the wait may be finally over.
Today Timberlake unveiled a minute long clip that follows the former-boy bander as he walks through the halls of a recording studio on his way to a booth where he dons a pair of headphones and declares, “I’m ready.” The voiceover accompanying the clip has JT explaining his relationship with music and why he hasn’t been in a rush to put out anything new, while a clock on his website is counting down to midnight on Sunday, January 13. What the midnight deadline will bring is anybody’s guess. The announcement of a full album? A new track? Guess we’ll just have to wait to find out, but after six years, what’s a few more days?
