Cold War Kids DMLH

Were it not for the damn flu bug I’ve been battling all week, I would have checked out the new Cold War Kids track much sooner, but alas, better late than never as “Miracle Mile” has propelled the group’s new album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, to the top of my most anticipated released of 2013 list.

Set for release on April 2nd, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts features new guitar player Dann Gallucci (Murder City Devils, Modest Mouse) and producer Lars Stalfors (check out our 2011 interview with Stalfors to find out a bit more about this talented producer). Lead singer Nathan Willett had this to say about the new album: “We were shaken up, ready to let certain songs go further than before by trying new styles and arrangements, while keeping others sparse and caring more about the finished product and less about how we got there.”

“Miracle Mile” definitely has a more produced, pop-sensibility to it while retaining everything that I’ve always loved about Cold War Kids (as discussed more clearly in my review of their in-store performance at Amoeba two years ago than my flu-rattled brain can manage right now). So, yeah, like I said, I cannot wait to hear the whole album.

Cold War Kids will release trailers from the making of Dear Miss Lonelyhearts each week leading up to April 2nd, and you can check out Trailers 1 and 2 below. They’ve also released a slew of tour dates, including a stop at The Fonda Theatre on May 24th, and tickets for that date go on sale tomorrow at 10 am.
