In Dave Grohl’s open letter to fans announcing Foo Fighters’ hiatus back in October, he mentioned that part of the reason for the break was so he could finish up the documentary he was directing on the famed Sound City recording studio, saying “it could be the biggest, most important project I’ve ever worked on.” This week, that project moved one step closer to completion with the release of an official, full-length trailer.
Sound City marks Grohl’s directorial debut and is set to debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January with a theatrical release the following month. The Van Nuys studio birthed some of the bigggest albums in music history, and several of the artists behind those albums — Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young — can be seen in the trailer. Check it out below and let me know what you think in the comments. Will you be hitting the theater to see this one in February or waiting until it finds its way to Netflix?
