In more musician-turned-documentarian news, Beyoncé has released a teaser for her self-titled and self-directed new film, Beyoncé. Is it just me, or does it seem like a bit of a conflict of interest to direct a documentary about yourself? I’ve always thought the director of a documentary is responsible for approaching their subject objectively, but is it possible to truly have perspective when the subject is oneself? I’m interested to see if she decides to use the opportunity to offer fans an honest look into her life both in the spotlight and behind closed doors or if the film ends up feeling more like a promotional tool, carefully cut together to present the person she wants the world to believe she is.

Beyoncé somewhat addresses the dilemma herself in the trailer, kicking off the 25-second clip with the voiceover, “I always battle with ‘How much do I reveal about myself?’” Fan won’t have to wait too long to find out as Beyoncé is set to premiere on HBO on February 16th (the same month that Dave Grohl’s Sound City documentary hits theaters). What do you think of the trailer? Will you be setting your DVR for Beyoncé or are you more interested in her other big February event (performing at the Super Bowl halftime show)?
