You are probably already familiar with Anthony Green, the charismatic, falsetto-utilizing grand wizard vocalist for Circa Survive. Well, when he is not spinning musical notes into gold with his voice for Circa, he is doing so on his own as a solo artist. In his spare time he has released two EPs, a remix album, and two LPs, the second of which (Beautiful Things) was released in January 2012 via Photo Finish. Green will be performing at the Fonda Theatre this Saturday, December 15th, along with Geoff Rickly, and we are giving away two pairs of tickets to the show!
Though heavily acoustic in the start, Anthony’s solo career has blossomed into an musical entity all its own. Most of the time when a relatively popular singer does solo albums, they are pretty much what Avalon was. Really nice, soft, acoustic arrangements — singer/songwriter kind of stuff — but with his new album, Beautiful Things, Green starts to take the gloves off and expand outward into what feel natural for him. It’s an amazing progression to watch, and with rumors about a new solo album already circulating, plus his continued involvement with Circa Survive, there’s a lot to be excited about if you are an Anthony Green fan.
You may also be familiar with Geoff Rickly. He was the lead singer and songwriter for the recently split emo-rock group Thursday. His music is similar to Anthony’s first solo album — singer/songwriter set-up and heavily acoustic — but Geoff seems to have traded in his falsetto vocals for a deeper, darker tone, one that I really enjoy. I am not sure if Geoff will continue his solo work, do another collaboration, or regroup with Thursday, but I do know that after listening to his self-released EP, Mixtape 1, I am looking forward to seeing where his solo career will lead him.
