In this season of giving, I was delighted to hear about of one of the world’s biggest DJ/producers most recent project: Tiësto has partnered with (RED) to encourage the EDM community to get involved in an exciting goal — an AIDS free generation by 2015.
Tiësto’s involvement with (RED) is two fold. In addition to releasing DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES — an exclusive compilation album featuring many big name EDM artists including Calvin Harris, Avicii and Diplo, Laidback Luke, and Martin Solveig, as well as an exclusive collaboration between Tiësto and Bono on U2’s “Pride” — Tiësto has promised to match donations dollar for dollar up to $100,000 on CrowdRise, and both Tiësto and Laidback Luke are giving away prizes and incentives at different gift levels.
While the goal of eliminating AIDS by 2015 may seem like a far-fetched one, it turns out that for only 40 cents a day, mothers can be treated to prevent transmission to their unborn children. Currently just over 900 babies are born daily with the virus. By 2015, that number can be near zero.
When asked about his collaboration with (RED), Tiësto revealed that his fight is a personal one: “When I went to Africa in 2006, I was struck by the devastating effect of AIDS. Now the world has an incredible chance to make sure that babies are born HIV free by 2015, and the dance community is going to make a lot of noise to help make this happen.”
(RED) was founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage businesses and people in the fight against AIDS. In the six years since then, (RED) has raised $200 million to fight AIDS, and 100% of that money goes to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.
