In Jay’s review of Passion Pit’s performance opening for Hot Chip at the Hollywood Bowl, he noted that the band “put on a performance that felt like a headlining set” and that frontman Michael Angelakos displayed “a total ease with the large venue.” I would be willing to bet, though, that the experience of watching that same frontman croon out those same tracks backed only by a keyboard and guitar — as he does in the newly released Passion Pit Tiny Desk Concert — packs as much emotional wallop for the listener as that Bowl performance.

Passion Pit’s Tiny Desk Concert includes the tracks “Take A Walk” and “Carried Away” from the group’s 2012 release, Gossamer, as well as “Sleepyhead” from their debut album, Manners. Check out the video below and let me know what you think in the comments. Is Passion Pit able to pull off the minimalist vibe or do you think you’d prefer seeing them blow the roof off a bigger venue?
