Oh, my, GAWD! Possibly the greatest ticket giveaway in the history of LAmb ticket giveaways is HERE! Minus The Bear, Cursive, and Girl in a Coma live at Club Nokia on November 9th, and we have TWO pairs of absolutely free tickets!
If you read my review for Minus The Bear’s latest album Infinity Overhead, you know it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of the Bear. I have seen the Seattle-based indie psych-rock group live five times, and they never fail to deliver a fantastic live performance. The very first time I saw these guys was at Club Firestone in Orlando, FL. They were right in the middle of their set — I believe “Let’s Play Clowns” was the song they were playing — and the monitors and IEM system went down.
The monitor engineer looked as white as a ghost, but the band, without missing a beat, looked at each other, adjusted, finished the song(!), and apologized for the inconvenience. It was at that point that I knew I had seen something special. These guys not only didn’t noticeably mess up the song, but they finished it with no in-ear mixes or stage monitors — that is what they call “being tight” on a whole new level. I have also seen them perform Highly Refined Pirates from start to finish, which is something that ranks in the Top 10 musical moment of my life. For my money, this is one of THE best bands you can see live, so don’t miss your chance to win these tickets!
Cursive is an emo/indie-rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. Unlike Minus The Bear, I have no live experience with Cursive, but I will tell you that out of those five times I’ve seen Minus The Bear, I have never been disappointed with an opener. Cursive is an accomplished group in their genre having released their first album in 1997, and this year they released their eighth LP, I Am Gemini, via Saddle Creek Records, which was well received by critics and fans and kind of reminds me of early Weezer. Below is the video for the song “Drunken Birds” off I Am Gemini.
Girl in a Coma is an indie rock band from San Antonio, Texas that is actually signed to Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records. The group is comprised of sisters Nina (vocals/guitar) and Phanie Diaz (drums) along with Jenn Alva (bass). They have four LPs with the latest being Exits & All The Rest, which was released November 1, 2011 through Blackheart Records. Their music is a throwback to the ’90s alt-rock scene, and the video for “Smart” makes me reminisce about days spent blowing in Nintendo cartridges and in-line skating everywhere I went.
And as usual, all you have to do to win these tickets is post a comment below (using an email address that you check frequently) and tell us why you want them. We have had a lot of awesome ticket giveaways in the last few weeks, but for me, this one takes the cake, so let’s see some good comments and good luck! And as always, if you don’t win, I highly suggest you pick up tickets anyways because this is going to be one great show.
