What can I say about today’s new releases? As usual, we have a great selection of albums from old favorites and up-and-comers in the music scene, and, also as usual, I can’t wait to feast my ears on several of these albums today. Check out some of the releases we think are of particular note below, and be sure to let me know in the comments what you’ll be checking out today!
Muse – The 2nd Law
Brit rock trio Muse is back with their sixth studio album and first since 2009’s The Resistance. Coincidentally enough, in the sixth installment of the LA Music Blog podcast, writer David Fisch goes so far as to say he’s bumping his affection for the first single “Madness” from “like” to “love,” and today we’ll find out if the rest of the album lives up to that track.
Tilly & the Wall – Heavy Mood
I’ve been tapping my toes along with Jamie Pressnall to Tilly & the Wall since their full-length debut Wild Like Children caught my ear shortly after its 2004 release, and with this, their fourth album, they keep the good vibes coming. Their music always reminds me of summer, so it seems like today, the first New Album Release Tuesday in October, is the perfect time for some new Tilly & the Wall.
Frank Turner – Last Minutes & Lost Evenings (DVD/CD)
Frank Turner is near the top of a very short list of performers who can completely entrance a crowd without any bells, whistles, scantily clad dancers, balloon drops, etc. Just give me Turner, a guitar, and a stage, and I will be a happy little folk fan, which is why the release of this psuedo-greatest hits album/documentary DVD has me excited. The DVD follows Frank and his band prior to his groundbreaking performance at Wembley Stadium, and the CD include 15 tracks picked by Turner himself as a introduction to his music for new fans. A must-have release for fans of punk-infused folk.
Matt & Kim – Lightning
D-I-Y Brooklyn duo Matt and Kim are back with their fourth album in just six years today, and if you don’t get enough of a workout dancing to Tilly & the Wall, this is another release that will no doubt induce boogying.
