Other Lives

After the immensely powerful release of Tamer Animals in 2011, Other Lives has released a new EP Mind the Gap, just this week. Like all good bands, they’re supporting the release with a tour, and like all good blogs, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show!

I stumbled across Other Lives at this year’s Coachella — they were the first band I saw, and no other act impressed me more that weekend. It may be the number of people and instruments the band fits onto the stage, or maybe it was just the cello, but I immediately thought of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. With long instrumental intros and an epic sound, Other Lives provides a lyrical, condensed Godspeed vibe that shows a mastery of the art of instrumental progression.

Just leave a comment below with an email address you check often to be eligible to win a free pair of tickets to Other Lives’ performance with Indians and Oren Lyons at El Rey Theatre on November 3rd. One of the great things about the band is that you get just that — a performance — every time you head out to one of their shows, and not just a cluster of people standing on stage playing and singing. There’s a genuine connection that can be felt during “As I Lay My Head Down” or “Tamer Animals” that is unmatched in my experience of concert-going. Enter our contest or pick up tickets yourself, but either way, don’t miss out!
