Having caught their set at Coachella 2012, I can say without a doubt that no band embodies the label of “consummate performers” quite like The Hives. They emerged on a blistering Indio stage donning a variety of delightfully monochromatic tuxedos. Frontman Pelle Almqvist’s hysterical on-stage antics included multiple proclamations of love for the audience, endearingly arrogant banter (“Do you love the sun? That’s good because I’m the closest cousin to the sun on planet Earth.”), and an unforgettable pause orchestrated toward the end of their final song “Tick Tick Boom” during which he had all the members of the audience crouch down to the floor prior to jumping up simultaneously once the music resumed.

But it’s not just about showmanship and pizzazz for these Swedish garage rockers; they posses some serious instrumental talent that has kept them going for 19 years and five full-length albums. Their songs are ludicrously fun rock anthems that can get even the tamest crowds bouncing around and singing along.

The Hives are an act that’s not to be missed! Lucky for you, tickets to their September 14 gig at the Wiltern are still available. With the exception of their Coachella 2012 performances and a show at the Glass House in between both Coachella weekends, The Hives haven’t been in Los Angeles since 2008, so make sure you don’t miss your chance to see them this time around!
