Reading about all the crazy weather affecting the rest of the US — record-breaking temperatures, power outages, tropical storms — has me very grateful for the beautiful conditions here in sunny SoCal. It also has me wanting to get out of the house and into some fun musical adventures this weekend. If you’re still looking for ways to fill your weekend with music, check out a few of your many options below!
Aesop Rock @ El Rey Theatre – July 13th
If you’re looking to start your weekend off with a bang, I suggest you head out to hip hop artist/producer Aesop Rock’s show with Rob Sonic, DJ Big Wiz, Edison, and Dark Time Sunshine at El Rey Theatre Friday night. Our writer Jay will be at the show, no doubt enjoying classic tracks and new one’s off the artist’s latest effort, Skelethon, which was just released this week. Give Jay’s review of the new album a read, and then pick up your tickets to the show.
Mount Analog Store Opening – July 14th
Amoeba Music may be the most established of the indie record stores, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for more! This Saturday, Mount Analog will be opening its doors to the public, and they’re kicking things off with quite the celebration. The shop — located in in Highland Park — specializes in new and used vinyl records, cassettes, books, cult/foreign film, posters, audio gear, original artwork, and clothing, and they’re also an event space, gearing up to host pop-ups and live events. Go celebrate their grand opening with them from noon until 10pm Saturday, and enjoy free alcoholic refreshments, food trucks, raffles, and the following schedule of live music:

Shearwater, Husky, Gold Leaves @ The Echo – July 15th
Looking for a more intimate show to close out your weekend? Look no further than the Echo Sunday night when the venue will be hosting a trio of indie folk acts known for beautifully textured tracks. LAMB writer David recently reviewed Forever So, the US debut from Melbourne’s Husky, and from the looks of it, Sub Pop Records hasn’t lost their knack for finding the best of the best indie folk acts around. Pick up your tickets for the show and see if you agree.
