With all the great Motown-throwback acts cropping up around the globe, including LA’s own Fitz and the Tantrums, it’s easy to forget that “Motown” is a nickname for Detroit, the original home of Berry Gordy’s Motown Records, which released music by everyone from Diana Ross & The Supremes to The Jackson 5. The label was also home to Brian Holland, the songwriter and record producer responsible for over 25 #1 Motown songs by many of the label’s top acts. Holland has now teamed up with another Detroit artist, Mozella, to co-write the charismatic vocalist’s aptly named new album, The Brian Holland Sessions.
The Brian Holland Sessions will be released this Tuesday, July 24th, via Belle Isle / Beverly Martel and was co-produced by Holland and Dave Wilder (Macy Gray & Ghostface Killah). I’ve heard the album myself and quickly fell in love with its catchy doo-wop and soul vibe and infectious pop melodies. Check out the track “Another You” and enjoy some behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions below.
