If you thought hard rock was making a quick and fateful exit from the mainstream, take a look at the efforts of Mesia and think again. This San Fernando Valley outfit pays homage to the accelerated speed of Josh Homme and his crew in Queens of the Stone Age and the brushstroke-like musicality and vocal range of Soundgarden. Vocalist and guitarist Mike Lerman shoots toward the sky as far as Chris Cornell is concerned, and the addition of the rest of the band member’s talents equal a sum that’s both immediately pleasure-inducing and confidently binding.
The band’s self-titled EP — released last year — is quite arresting. After listening to songs like the rousing ’90s nostalgia wonder “Suffocate” or the consistently thrashing “Point of No Return,” it’s easy to see that this is the right start for a band looking to excel in this often fringed category of rock and make it more accessible. It blares from the get-go and doesn’t halt across its run time. It’s the perfect rush of blood to the head that you need to begin any day of your week.
Mesia is currently readying new songs and steadily churning out music videos, one of which you can view down below. They have also been making the rounds on the LA circuit, performing live at famed venues such as The Viper Room and The Key Club. Their latest performance at The Other Door in North Hollywood can actually be seen tomorrow, June 14th, at 9:00PM. I’ll more than likely be there, and I highly suggest you don’t miss out!
