The dance music world has, in short, arrived at an incredibly interesting and exciting stage of development. One part novel, two parts crossroads, it’s become the focal point for so many facets of the music industry. It’s converted listeners who weren’t quite paying attention before and garnered the attention of a whole new generation of audience members, ready to raise their hands and fist pump their faces off to the music of charismatic DJs and other electronic artists. It’s re-piqued the interest of old fans who thought the early 2000s were at an end, grabbed the desire of artists from other traditional musical genres to cross-produce, and of course, found an agenda in those who have always sought to capitalize on the mainstream listeners base.

And as things continue to expand, we get caught up sometimes. We hear a song get some airtime and automatically assume it’s rubbish because it’s fallen into the hands of the dreaded ‘mainstream’ beast. We get so caught up in the hype, the intrigue, the shallow images, faked performances–and in the end, we’re left with a bitter taste in our mouths that has nothing to do with the music.

And in those moments, you find your gems. You find genuine artists with clear and simple intentions. Up-and-coming artists with legitimate talent that don’t talk ahead of themselves and declare true love for their musical craft. Introducing, Adriana and Freddy Ruxpin.

“What’s their agenda? What are they trying to sell to me?”

Chill out, nothing. They’ve been performing and expressing their love for music since they were young (early teens), and have come out with a 5-track EP called In Stereo, that’s well, pretty awesome, and carries an amazing upbeat vibe.

“BUT WHAT DO THEY EXPECT FROM ME?”

CHILL OUT GUNS & BROSES, just a little time and attention to check out their free EP and enjoy their content.

Both hailing as local LA residents, their product offering is extremely straightforward and honest. They make beautiful YouTube covers of popular EDM tracks with Freddy’s original arrangements and incredibly innovative use of minimal equipment (laptop, keyboard, inspiration, no frills). And in Adriana’s arsenal, a soulful voice that walks the line between sweet and sultry, but never overpowering. Her vocals have just a hint of the breakbeat and freestyle days where her singing career began. They make you reminisce about those past musical experiences that you’re always yearning for, but can never really obtain.

In Stereo features five songs with an album-titled prelude. The all-too-quick series of incredibly smooth dance tracks taps multiple facets of the house music genre. From the subtle pad-driven melody cues of progressive house to the high-energy buildups and breakdowns of the main stage, In Stereo takes you on a stroll through the different chapters of dance music (even including a little electro-inspired dubstep) with Adriana as your gorgeous guide. While Freddy’s track compositions are definitely strong enough to stand on their own as instrumental dubs, Adriana’s vocals (written by both) provide a perfect compliment with an uniquely active presence. At first listen, it might be more vocal content than one would usually expect, but trust me, it works beautifully.

Perfect while: 1) driving, 2) getting ready to go out on the weekend, 3) introducing house/dance music to your friends who can’t stand “motherf*ckin’ space music”
