This has been quite a week for fans of prematurely punk bands. First came the surprise news that At The Drive-In would be reforming and playing Coachella, an announcement that took a certain amount of attention away from the OTHER formerly defunct punk band that had reformed for the festival. Believe it or not, Swedish legends Refused have announced that they will indeed be returning and have been booked for their first confirmed Stateside appearances at Coachella.

This is what the band themselves had to say:

We never did The Shape Of Punk To Come justice back when it came out, too tangled up in petty internal bickering to really focus on the job. And suddenly there’s this possibility to do it like it was intended. We wanna do it over, do it right, for the people who’ve kept the music alive through the years, but also for our own sakes.

We feel that you deserve it and we hope the feeling is mutual.

See you in the pit.

It has been a remarkable 14 years since the band released their final magnum opus, The Shape Of Punk To Come, an album that has continued to grow in influence and reputation. The album certainly seems to have been discovered and loved by far more music fans since the split than when Refused was still in existence. My own love for the band is only about seven years old. In all honesty, I would consider selling a family member to get a ticket if they play in Los Angeles, which proves that honesty is not always the best policy.

For a glimpse of their brutal brilliance, watch the “New Noise” video below:
