If you’ve ever listened to The Books, then you’ve already taken the plunge into one of the most experimental and creative sound-collage bands in recent memory. Their welcome return to the music scene on 2010’s The Way Out made for one of the most underrated releases of that year, and now Nick Zammuto, one half of the duo that makes up The Books, is returning for a solo effort that promises to continue the varietal and therapeutic soundscapes set forth by the band.

Via his website, Zammuto had been posting songs throughout 2011 in anticipation of his as-yet-untitled full-length LP. Now (and officially) he has released a 3-track EP titled Idiom Wind.

Utilizing the same aural tricks as The Books but with even more unique beats and textures, Idiom Wind is a wonderfully refreshing start to the new year and a fantastic set-up for what’s to come from Zammuto later in 2012. The EP has been made available for free to stream via SoundCloud, which you can listen to down below.

As for a physical release, a 7” vinyl edition of Idiom Wind featuring the title track on Side A and “F U C-3PO” on Side B will be made available from Make Mine Records at a later date. “Weird Ceiling” can be listened to only through the EP’s digital release as the third and final track.

Information on when the EP and the LP will be released for sale will be available on Zammuto’s website once announced. The Books will also be playing a set of shows featuring new and unreleased tracks starting in early February.
