Consider my mind effectively blown right now, dear readers. I thought there was no possible way I could love fun’s single “We Are Young” any more than I already did, and then they go and release an acoustic version that blows the original right out of the water.
Frontman Nate Ruess (The Format) hits every note perfectly in the live acoustic rendition of the song, while adding extra little flourishes that make me even more angry that I missed the trio’s (rounded out by Steel Train frontman Jack Antonoff and ex-Anathallo member/multi-instrumentalist Andrew Dost) sold-out show at the Troubadour earlier this month. I got legitimate chills several times while watching the video, and guest vocalist Janelle Monae absolute wows with her contributions to the track. Best of all, the four seem to be thoroughly enjoying the experience of performing together.
Check it out below, and tell me if you’re able to resist playing the video more than once.
The group will release their Jeff Bhasker-produced sophomore album, Some Nights, on February 21st, 2012, and I absolutely cannot wait! Consider me skipping right over Christmas excitement and into 2012-album-release excitement this very minute. You can view a teaser for the album below, and if you were one of the lucky few who made it to their show at the Troubadour, please feel free to gloat in the comments (I can put aside my jealousy as long as you share details on the performance).
