Seekae LEAD

Imagine sitting in your car for over an hour, just inching along thanks to the thousands of other cars on the road. What can you do to escape? I’ll tell you what: listen to Seekae’s new album, +DOME. The trio from Down Under took me up over the Sepulveda Pass every day this past week in a magical daze.

Seekae does an excellent job of developing tracks from the simple to the complex while incorporating plenty of dancey beats. The opening track “Go,” starts off with a jarring guitar solo before proceeding into my favorite track, the counterintuitively named “3.” Speaking of jarring, some of the sounds in this song remind me of some old Jean Michel Jarre stuff, and I especially love the synth breakdown towards the end of the track.

Every song on +DOME is an adventure. The third track, “Blood Bank,” sounds like koalas came into the studio and decided to shoot lasers at each other, while “Reset Head” makes me feel like I’m underwater. The album stays surprising until the very end with “You’ll,” a very sweet acoustic guitar track featuring actual singing. I imagine their live show includes a few surprises too, so you know I’ll be in the audience for their show at the Airliner here in LA tonight. Will I see you there?
