As someone who was born and raised in the Bluegrass State (that’s Kentucky, for those of you who don’t know your state nicknames), I’m partial to anything that pays tribute to bluegrass music, and Venice’s The Dustbowl Revival does that and so much more.
With an infusion of soul, swing, and bluegrass, Zach Lupetin and crew bring to life a sound that some might think is long forgotten. The main thing that really grabs my attention with a band like The Dustbowl Revival is they are writing their music for the love of it, playing a style that few others venture into in this modern era, and they do so as if they have lived through it all. This speaks volumes to me about the musicians and anyone involved in the project.
The Dustbowl Revival can bring you back in time without coming across as fake or as an imitation of previous bands. With their new EP, Holy Ghost Station, the band has a true revival of music styles that breathes life into an era that is not often revisited in this day and age. If you can’t catch them perform live at the Jam In The Van charity event at Central SAPC in Santa Monica tomorrow night or at the Pasadena Food and Wine Festival this Saturday (for free!), then check out any of their other dates below.
