Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Theophilus London…? Yessir, not too many men can make the ol’ Stetson look good, but London somehow pulls off the look in his new video for “I Stand Alone,” a track off his debut album Timez Are Weird These Days. Styled and conceptualized by Theophilus himself and directed by the up-and-coming production duo of Harrison Boyce and Nathaniel Brown of Boyce & Brown, the video also makes solid use of a green screen, with London superimposed into the desert, the ocean, outer space…there’s nowhere he can’t rock that cowboy hat!
The Trinidad-born, Brooklyn-raised rapper may have only been alive for the last few years of the ’80s, but the influence of the decade on his music is apparent. This track in particular sounds like it could be playing during the montage in an ’80s teen flick, but the production keeps the song from sounding dated. Hmm…wonder if they’ve put together a track list for the new Footloose soundtrack. I sense a match made in heaven.
