With all the hullabaloo surrounding this weekend’s “Carmageddon,” I’ve heard more than one West-sider say they’ll be avoiding the whole situation by heading down to San Diego, which got me thinking that it’s really not that far. I hardly ever leave LA county since, well, everything I could possibly need is right here, but if anything could draw me out of my little metropolitan bubble, it’s the 2011 San Diego Music Thing.
The aptly named event is an annual 2-day music conference featuring interactive and roundtable sessions with nationally-known panelists and featured speakers who represent the best and most innovative aspects of the music business. If you’re not all about getting your learning on, there’s also a trade show, happy hour parties, and the chance to rub shoulders with top industry professionals and artists.
Oh, and did I forget to mention the live music? The corresponding Music Fest features over 150 local, regional and national bands performing at 14 venues around San Diego. At only $20 per night, the Music Fest alone is worth the 3-hour drive south. Plus you can always take a detour to the San Diego Zoo. I love me some penguins!
