opeth2011

2011 is the year for Swedish music, with new albums on the horizon from In Flames, Arch Enemy, and of course, Opeth. The prog-metal monoliths are gearing up for the release of their tenth studio album, Heritage, on September 20th through Roadrunner Records. The outing was recorded earlier this year at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm and was produced by frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt, who collaborated with artist Travis Smith to create, design, and execute the album’s artwork.

Speaking on the album, Åkerfeldt commented, “It will be our 10th album/observation. I dig it; we all do. In fact, it feels like I’ve been building up to write for and participate on an album like this since I was 19.”

He went on to mention, “It’s obvious I’m going to say nice things about it since I wrote, basically, the whole piece, but I guess it will raise a few eyebrows and it certainly is an acquired taste. You’ll need a slightly deeper understanding of our music as a whole to be able to appreciate this record…I hope you’ll like it once you hear it.”

As with all of Opeth’s releases, Heritage will be available in several different formats including a standard CD version, a double LP, and a collectible box set exclusive to Roadrunner and Opeth’s online merch stores.

Heritage track listing:

  1. Heritage
  2. The Devil’s Orchard
  3. I Feel The Dark
  4. Slither
  5. Nepenthe
  6. Haxprocess
  7. Famine
  8. The Lines In My Hand

  10. Marrow Of The Earth

The band will embark on a seven-week headlining run in the US in support of the album’s release, with dates expected to be announced shortly.
