Warped Tour veterans Reel Big Fish may have skipped the Los Angeles stop at the 2010 Warped Tour, avoided Los Angeles for their 20th Anniversary World Tour, and caused fans to think all hope was lost once again for this year’s Warped when not announce on the line up, but don’t put away your fedoras, checkered Vans, and suspenders just yet as it seems like RBF is officially coming to town! The band has just announced the list of summer tour dates, and they’ll be co-headlining an LA show at Club Nokia with Streetlight Manifesto in July.
Reel Big Fish has been around for twenty years but will always remain ska kids at heart. Recently they released the album, A Best of Us For the Rest Of Us, a two-disc greatest hits compilation which included 22 of the band’s hits along with 14 “skacoustic” versions of some of their greatest songs.
The band’s tour news announcements keep on getting better, as a message on their website reads: “Dear RBF Fans Who are Disappointed, Disgruntled and Duly Saddened That the Summer Tour Dates With Streetlight do not Include Your Town: There’s Already Talk of Adding a 2nd Leg of the Tour This Fall Hopefully to Hit the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, More Canada & Other Areas We Love to Play Just As much As the Towns We’re Hitting This Summer! In Fact, We’d Love to Take This Package Around the World! Keep Your Fingers Crossed!”
While Reel Big Fish hasn’t released new material since 2005’s Monkeys for Nothin’ and the Chimps for Free, they have also recently announced plans to release new music sometime in late 2011, even suggesting the possibility of a holiday-themed album just in time for Christmas.
Streetlight Manifesto has been just as busy as their fellow Fish friends. They embarked on The Ship of Fools Odds and Ends Tour, which took them places they had never ventured to before, like New Zealand and Australia. On April 30, they returned to the States to play New Jersey’s Bamboozle Festival as well as a handful of US dates, none on the west coast, however, but thanks to this summer tour, it will be possible to check them out.
Streetlight Manifesto’s latest release 99 Songs of Revolution: Vol 1, is part a project they have been working on for about 10 years with several other artists. The effort will involve the release of 99 cover songs of by Streetlight, Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, and two other as-yet-unannounced artists. Like Real Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto has announced plans to release a new album of original material sometime later this year.
