Did you catch the latest Check Yo Ponytail party Tuesday? For me it was a must-attend event, because although I was hella tired from work, there was no way I was missing a chance to see Light Asylum!! Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello have been draining the batteries on my iPod with their electro-goth underground hit “Dark Allies.” Shannon has this amazingly powerful and deep voice that will just blow you away, and I was beyond excited to hear it in person.
She did NOT disappoint. Every move and sound she made was momentous, and she has this intense presence that commands respect, yet she also came off as really lovely and personable. At the end of their set, some random dude from the audience ran on stage and gave her a hug, and she totally welcomed him with a warm smile.
Light Asylum played all of their tracks off their EP In Tension, and each song was more amazing than the last. It got me really excited to see what they will create for a full-length album. Of course, the highlight of the show was definitely “Dark Allies,” which brought Shannon storming to the edge of the stage where she paced completely wild, roaring over the audience. It was like the first beat hit and an atomic light flared up inside her and she just became this exploding nuclear force. Her whole body emanated an unstoppable raw power that would make all of Orion jealous.
Girl is so majestic, even pictures of her will make your jaw go slack…
Here are photos of the two opening bands. (Unfortunately I did not stay to catch Salem who was last to take the stage, but I was dying to get home and pajama jam.)

And if you haven’t yet seen it, here’s the video for “Dark Allies.”
