I first fell in love with Huntington Beach’s Hellogoodbye in 2004 after hearing their oh-so-sweet track “Dear Jamie… Sincerely Me” off their self-titled debut EP. I was a college undergrad with emo tendencies, they were a sentimental pop band with emo tendencies…needless to say, we were a perfect fit.
Fast forward six years: Hellogoodbye has found their way back on my radar with their November 2010 release Would It Kill You? Listening to this record was like running into a boyfriend from high school and realizing, damn, he’s gotten even better looking and more awesome than he was when we were conspiring to sneak Boones Farm into our junior prom. Why did we stop seeing each other again?

The general theme of the new album won’t surprise fans of HGB (love!), but the group’s songwriting has matured, and though frontman/primary songwriter Forrest Kline is the only remaining member of the 2004 incarnation of the band, the album still retains the classic Hellogoodbye feel. I will definitely be attending the band’s show at the Troubadour on the 22nd, and you should too. We can dance like Charlie Brown characters together. It’ll be a grand time.
