Austin heavy metal act The Sword has revealed details for their upcoming studio offering, Warp Riders. Produced by Matt Bayles (Isis, Mastodon), the album will see a release date of August 24th through Kemado Records.

The effort is The Sword‘s first concept album, lyrically based around a sci-fi narrative characterized as “a psychedelic space opera that explores temporal themes of death and rebirth.” The album also showcases an evolvement of the band’s signature doomy sound, delving into the realm of aggressive hard rock.

The Sword formed in 2003 and quickly signed on to the New York-based label Kemado Records.  The band has released two full-length studio albums, Age of Winters and Gods of the Earth, both to high critical acclaim and mainstream success.

Generally classified as a doom metal/stoner rock hybrid, The Sword cite influences as Black Sabbath, Sleep, and the Melvins. They’ve shared the stage with Metallica, Priestess, and Lamb of God, and have been featured on the past three editions of the Guitar Hero video game.
