We all have those friends that get us out of the house and into something simply fantastic. Sometimes friendships entail a night at the drive-in with a pound of Twizzlers. Other friendships push us past our limits and our curfews in the city. But the truest of all friends are the ones that will undyingly start a folk band with you…that is, if your friends are The Spring Standards.

The Spring Standards

Formed in “the last summer of the twentieth century” (as they so candidly describe), The Spring Standards, a three-piece folk band from New York City have packed their bags and taken to stages all over the US with their sweet harmonies and classic Americana style. Comprised of James Cleare, James Smith, and Heather Robb, The Spring Standards began as a group of friends enamored with classic vinyl and old crooners. After spending several years in admiration of musicians, the three became their own artists and booked small-scale tours all over the East Coast.

After taking some time to reflect on the possibility of the group’s success becoming larger than their parents’ basements, The Spring Standards officially recorded and released their first EP No One Will Know in 2008. Luckily, they struck when the iron was red hot on the indie folk scene, and low and behold, the trio became a household name on the New York music scene. With a new independent album entitled Would Things Be Different due out this year, The Spring Standards are about to take on the lifestyle that comes with a full record and full house at each venue.

This video for their hit “Reply” was recorded with Paste Magazine, and it illustrates the simple candor the three have kept throughout the entire ride of recording and recognizing the dream that they formed together. The three genuinely have fun with each other, have fun with the song, and inspire the viewer to be a part of something much greater than an album: they inspire us all to look at just how fruitful a friendship can be.
