Monday, December 28- Public School System Tour featuring Cold Flamez, The Pricks with special guests Electrolightz + Cherry Pop

As youngsters, Cold Flamez blazed through the same streets made famous by Warren G, Crooked I, Daz, Nate Dogg and of course, Snoop Dogg. Long Beach’s gritty skateboarding culture helped shape the worldview of D-Real, his little brother Mic 3rd and their homie Dash just as much as the neighborhood’s native sounds. When D-Real headed off to Louisiana’s Grambling University, Dash and Mic 3rd began to take their art more seriously, recording on a makeshift setup at Dash’s house in Compton. After his semester-long shot at higher education, D was on his way back to Long Beach to join his crew. The music that came from this “wild” period in their lives earned them a reputation with the residents. The group targeted the audience of the budding Jerk music movement and posted their song to each fan’s MySpace profile causing the song to catch on like wildfire. Following the local success of their smash single, “Miss Me, Kiss Me,” Cold Flamez are gearing up to release their as yet untitled debut album, but debunk any attempt to label it as a, “jerk album.” Cold Flamez are ambitious to bring their self-described “cold hearted music” to the world and join their local predecessors in the hip-hop hall of fame.

So my buddy Mike runs this LA Music Blog site. We’ve had plenty conversations about me doing the Hip Hop section. Only thing is, I have commitment issues (i.e. previous girlfriends) and I’ve been pretty lazy as of late. BUT for the love of HIP HOP, my first love, I told my self “DARRICK, step your shit up!”…so I did.

When I think of Kidz in the Hall, I think of my favorite Hip Hop duos before them that had stoopid crazy chemistry, MAAAD lyrics, and stellar production. Duo’s such as Eric B & Rakim, Outkast, UGK, EPMD, Method Man & Redman, Clipse, Snoop & Dre, Eminem & Dre. I can go on and on, but the point is that’s what’s missing in Hip Hop: CHEMISTRY. Artists as of late get lost in their own albums by having too many producers on it. When this happens, the album lacks cohesiveness, direction, and serves too many album fillers. In other words, too many singles and not enough albums!

As per usual this time of year, there aren’t too many albums being released today. Do you know of any that we’ve missed? We’d love to hear about them in the comments.

Mary J. Blige, Stronger with Each Tear

Dave Matthews Band, Europe 2009 – The band already has a Europe 2010 tour in the works so if you like what you hear, maybe take a little trippy trip across the pond next year and catch DMB doing what they do best.

Eminem , Relapse: Refill

Mudvayne, Mudvayne – Check out our interview with guitarist Greg Tribbett for some insider info about the release.

Young Money, We Are Young Money – If waiting for Lil Wayne’s new album to drop has got you down, check out this release from his Young Money Entertainment label.

Looking for a band capable of creating a striking cacophony of post-rock, afro-punk disco, and cinematic soul that is both tight and expansive? Well look no further than I’m In You. The Brooklyn-based band just finished up their international tour with Julian Plenti (Interpol’s Paul Banks’ solo project) in support of their self-titled sophomore album, the follow-up to 2008’s War Dreams. Band member Sebastian Ischer took time out while on the tour to answer a few questions for LA Music Blog’s readers about the new album, being on the road with Julian Plenti, and the group’s collaborative songwriting process.
